Preston District Scouts held two important events over the weekend. One designed to solidify linking between Scouts & Explorers and the other was to kick start our new-look Network.

Our first ever Forum Challenge took place on Friday evening, bringing together the Scout and Explorer sections. Both sections held their own forums and then held a combined forum to share ideas and organise some further linking activities.

Members of our Scout section invited the Explorers to assist on their County Rally camp in May and the Explorers invited the older Scouts to challenge them at their Olympics event in July.

After lots of talking, it was time for action and both sections took part in a hotly contested challenge, where the Scouts & Explorers competed to beat several world records, including ‘the most number of spoons balanced on your face’.

After a pizza supper, the two sections departed with plans to repeat the event to further forge the link between the two sections.

Network Launch
As part of the Scout Headquarters Network Refresh, we launched our new district-led Network this weekend. The event brought together existing members of the section as well as Explorer Scouts who are approaching Network age. Attendees heard all about the changes to the section and the opportunities available to its members.

There were presentations about the Explorer Belt, Queen Scout Award and DofE and a workshop to put together the new programme for the section.

Lee Brooks, our new District Scout Network Commissioner commented that “It was great to finally get things started after so many months of planning. Our members who attended today put together their first programme. Everyone is excited for our first event which will be Extreme Trampolining which is something the Network has never done before”.
