Archery Activity Permit Training Weekend

Last weekend, 8 leaders from Preston embarked on gaining a new archery activity permit for scouts. They met at Waddecar on Friday night and got straight into it, learning about the rules and laws associated with the adventurous activity.

After a good night getting to know each other, it was an early start where they learnt all about the equipment and terminology use whilst running an archery session.

Now it was time to visit the archery range for some practical training. After some good training and lots of practice all the leaders where becoming quite good (Katniss Everdeen watch out). The instructor then decided to introduce the group to a little fun, showing them the types of games that could be played whilst instructing young people. This started off very tame but quickly became very competitive! (Surprise surprise!)

There was lots more work to be done in the classroom Saturday evening and early Sunday where they learnt about safeguarding and working with young people with special needs followed by a short quiz. Then as luck would have it, they where back down on the archery range working with a scout group with such needs before getting ready for their practical assessment.

All that’s left to say is a huge BRAVO to¬†everybody, there was a 100% pass and a big thank you to Alan and Mark as the assessors giving up their valuable time to make this happen, there are now 8 more archery permit holders in Preston.image
